David Bull
Professor David Bull PhD, FIET, MIEEE, CEng is a co-founder and director of ProVision Communications; he also holds the Chair in Signal Processing at the University of Bristol and is Director of the Bristol Vision Institute.
A past director of the DTI Virtual Centre of Excellence in Digital Broadcasting and Multimedia Technology, he is now a member of the Steering Committee for the DTI funded Centre for Communications Computing and Content (3CRL). Between 2003 and 2006 he served on the Science and Technology Board of the Defence Technology Centre in Data and Information Fusion, and has acted as an independent member of UK DSAC. He has also contributed to the UK Foresight Panel and various EPSRC and DTI/TSB initiatives.
David Bull has worked widely in the fields of 1 and 2-D signal processing. He has won two IEE Premium awards for this work and has published numerous patents, several of which have been exploited commercially. His current activities are focused on the problems of image and video communications for both low bit rate wireless, internet and broadcast applications. In particular he has developed novel error resilient video coding and transport methods for wireless H.264.
He has contributed to EU projects WINHOME, TRUST, SCOUT, MEDIANET, WCAM and ASTRALS. He has published over 300 papers, various articles and 2 books.
